The Sabbadius Funky-Vibe Mastermind edition takes an even deeper dive into the nuanced tones of Jimi Hendrix in the studio. When it comes to the vibe effect, Sabbadius Electronics realizes that not all vibes are created equal, especially when looking at the circuit variations between the early Honey-era vibes and Shin-Ei versions sold under various names from the late 60s to early 70s.
The Limited Edition Funky Vibe Mastermind gives you 3 Vibe variation ranging from classic throb to extra water tones that Hendrix used in throughout his career. With an all analog vibe circuit at the heart, running at the proper high voltage, this Custom Shop creation uses all the crucial components like NOS lamp bulbs for the right chewy-ness, Matsushita transistors in the preamp/signal path and custom-made photocells made exclusively for Sabbadius.
First, the 1968 mode recreates the early Honey-era Univibe circuit used by Hendrix, with the classic heartbeat pulse and warm swirling tone that most other vibes strive for. The Voodoo mode is based on the Vibra-Chorus pedal made by Shin-Ei and sold under names like Companion and Jax. This sound has more of a phase shifter quality, in that the waveform is less throbbing and a little brighter. For an example where Hendrix may have used this, check out the studio outtake Jungle.

Lastly, pushing farther into phaser-land and straying away from the extreme throb is the Mastermind mode, named after the song of the same name from the West Coast Seattle Boy anthology album. Still very much a vibe, this mode has a super liquid-like tone that goes deeper into phase territory as you decrease the intensity. Sabbadius believes Hendrix used the vibe variation known as the Resly-Tone RT-18, which has all of those swirling characteristics, especially in the faster speeds.
Like previous Funky-Vibes, the authentic enclosure gives you both true bypass and the ability to cancel the speed. Just like the original speed pedal in the heel position, the cancel switch stops the effect while the guitar continues through the preamp for extra sonic magic and added boost with the volume cranked. The limited edition Funky-Vibe Mastermind is hand-wired with high quality components, one at a time in Argentina, and is available in your country’s voltage at Sabbadius.com.
