Sydney selector-turned-producer Mo' Funk inaugurated the V.I.P Vault series, an offshoot of his popular Only Cuts imprint, in order to showcase "special mixes, edits and tools" - basically secret weapons from the artist and his musical mates. Volume two in the series is as essential as its predecessor, which is very good news indeed. On A-side 'Let Me Dance (Shake It Up Dub)', he successfully cuts, stretches out and re-arranges a whistle-sporting slab of disco-rock excitement - all crunchy disco beats, funky bass guitar, yelped female vocal snippets, Clavinet licks, gravelly guitar licks and snatches of sweeping strings. Over on the flip 'Lucky Star' sees him turn an 80s soul era gem (not the Madonna number of the same name, in case you were wondering) into a thicket slab of electrofunk/house fusion.
