"Sound Your Funky Horn" was the third single that the band released and was embraced by the R&B radio in the US reaching #21 on that survey. It was also their third R&B hit in a row and all three songs found an audience in the UK. That resulted in the label authorizing a full album of their music. KC and Richard Finch wrote the song "Rock Your Baby" during this time but gave it to George McCrae since he could hit the high notes.

They released the album "Do It Good" in 1974 and you can hear the various elements that would crown their particular brand of disco that did not coalesce until their second album, the self titled "KC & The Sunshine Band" in 1975 that gave them their first #1 hit with "Get Down Tonight" and broke the band across the world.

"Sound Your Funky Horn" was sampled in two songs, the first by James Last in 1975 and then Debbie D in 1991. It was also covered by The Wiggles in 2010.
