Jimi Hendrix always gets his props in Rock music, but that isn't always the case in Funk music. Sure, most of Jimi's music wasn't funky in the sense of getting out on the dance floor, but his style was picked up by the greatest funk bands of the 70's and beyond. Jimi's most concrete vehicle to the minds and hearts of funk fans, was the Band of Gypsys (BOG's). The BOG's set the template for funk musicians to explore free form guitar licks over funky and driving bass and drum beats.
