Funky Groovy Drum Solo - LAST DRUM IMPROVISATION OF 2020 - Marc Espejo Funky Groove
This 7 min video is an improvisation from the soul with a very peculiar taste. I didn't want to throw too many chops in the flow, so I tried to keep it as groovie and funky as possible.

As a kid I first started playing metal with some classmates who were into metal bands such as metallica, cannibal corpse, slayer and sepultura. I started playing drums with double pedal, no technique and no teachers who could help me understand the mechanics of drumming, all I had was a cheap ass drumkit, a pair of sticks and a whole lot of passion and energy to play.
I had no input but but the old metal cassetes and vhs that were around at the time, besides watching metal gigs from time to time that took place every now and then in the town I grew up.
Later, when the internet took place, I started downloading my first drum videos, such as dave weckl's and virgil donati's drum solos from that time!!! that was a belssing to be able to watch every day those videos filled with power and valuable data.
Later in 2010 I discovered gospelchops. I fell in love with the style and versatility of those black gospel drummers, so I started watching them and trying to play the impossible stuff they played with only one pedal!. Eventually I sold my double pedal and dedicated my self to master the single pedal.

In the last 10 years I've picked up a lot of knowledge from watching many diffrent drummers but to be honest gospelchops drummers have been the most influential to me up to date. That's why my style has now mutated into a bizarre amalgam of styles but most predominant of all is gospel chops.
The vibe of this drum groove solo is in a shuffle feel, but not the common shuffle type of feel. this is my own aproach to shuffle.

My main influences in drums are guys like: Morgan Agren, thomas haake, Chris coleman, virgil donati, thomas pridgen, dave weckl, Maison guidry, anthony burns, matt gartska, fred boswell jr, Nate Smith.
