I recently heard the funky Deodato version again in the opening scene of a French heist movie and realized how great this arrangement is (it won a Grammy in 1974, btw). We have Billy Cobham on drums, Stanley Clarke on bass and John Tropea on guitars (and Deodato on the keys, of course). So I decided to try a piano solo version on it. Deodato´s solo didn´t kill me, so I remembered a Herbie Hancock solo (from Man-Child´s "Steppin' In It") which was part of a Funk workshop I gave some years ago. Originally in Bb mixolydian mode, here in C mixolydian, it was fun to transfer the monophone band version into a piano solo version. So here we go with my second funky arrangement after Herbie´s "Cantaloupe Island", which you can find on this channel, too. Have fun :-)
